2017 $2 Norse Goddesses –Hel 2oz Silver High Relief Antiqued Coin
According to ancient Norse mythology, Hel was the goddess of the dead and the queen of the underworld. Born with the bones on one side of her face and body exposed. Hel is one the most fearsome looking goddesses.
She is described as hag-like, appearing half-alive and half-dead, and is often depicted alongside the World Tree with the dragon Nidhug who lives at the base of the tree.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz 99.9% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,000 of the 2017 Norse Goddesses – Hel 2oz Silver High Relief Antiqued Coin.
The reverse of the coin features Hel sitting cross-legged underneath the first World Tree with Nidhug wrapped around the base of the tree.
Some of the tree roots depict faces of the lost souls she watches over. The inscription HEL and The Perth Mint's 'P' Mintmark feature within the design.
The obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2017 year-date.
To capture the depth and detail of the design, the coin is struck in high relief to a rimless format and has been individually 'antiqued' to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.
Each coin is housed in a prestigious square wooden display case with stunning engraved detail on its lid, and packaged in a themed shipper, and accompanied by a Numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
